Mike Clancey - Bass

Mike

Mike, a Somerville, MA native, started his musical trek at age 11 when his Grandfather gave him his first guitar. After studying and practicing for several years, Mike started the band “Zahkia.” Throughout the 70’s & 80’s, Mike was involved in various original rock projects, co-writing songs and performing in several bands including “Dark Star,” “Joe Doobes Band,”  "Bad Attitude," and “Jacks or Better,” playing many of the larger venues in and around the Boston area.  During this period, Mike pursued his interest in bass and jumped into bass playing full-time.  In 1984, he was instrumental in the recording of the “Joe Doobes Band” album entitled Full Load, co-writing many of the songs and acting as a co-producer and then continued playing into the late 90’s.

After talking a "mental" break for a couple of years, Mike reunited with his friend and drummer, Will U, in the classic cover rock band “BacTrax.” Mike and Will were reunited in “BacTrax” with 2 other friends, John Bounomo and vocalist Dave Alves, whom the pair had known since the 80’s, where they shared a rehearsal building in Quincy, MA. “BacTrax” continued on for five years playing venues throughout greater Boston until the band’s dissolution in early 2003.

During the Winter of ‘03-’04, Mike started a recording business involving Bugaboo Recording , recording several CD's for Dave Alves, a debut CD for the metal band “Severance.”

Throughout these projects, while he maintained his love for bass playing and performing, Mike relocated with his wife, Erin and two children to Gardner, MA and was asked to join “Drive South” in 2008.  Mike says, "This band brings me back to why I enjoy playing:  Just having fun, entertaining crowds, and leaving everyone feeling good at the end of a night!"
